Social Networks that are made for musician have three main functions:
In Social Networks everybody can set up his own little home page, the profile. That’s the place where you can fill in some information, upload a picture and often write a free text about you.
Networking means that you take care of your friendships while you’re also meeting new friends. In social networks this is truly easy: With a few clicks you can write messages without having the adress of the other person. By analysing profiles it’s also easy to get to know new people with the same interests.
Social Networks and musician platforms often have a built-in function that makes it possible to upload own tracks and make them available for the other network members.
In order to introduce to the world of social networks I have made a list of networks and other free platforms for musicians:
http://last.fm
Last FM makes it possible for musicians to publish their tracks online and make them available for a revolutionary, individual internet radio: Last FM doesn’t send a normal radio show. After you’ve downloaded the Last FM player, you can chose an artist. Now the program plays songs that sound similiar to this artist. And it can do more: It remembers the songs you’ve listened to and tries to find new songs that are similar to them. So you get songs for your individual liking. Every Musician can upload his tracks on the server and make them available to the Last FM listeners.
You can upload an infinetely big amount of tracks and albums. Furthermore it’s possible to tag your tracks and describe them. Additionally you have a place for putting your band biography and photos online.

http://www.myspace.com
Myspace is probably the best-known musician networking site, although there are more and more private users. It’s possible to upload up to ten songs and to build your own profile site whose design you can adapt.
The funny thing with Myspace is that it’s easy to be a “friend” of a big band like Linkin Park, for example.

Upload your music, set up your own profile and some more. Furthermore there’s a follower option like on twitter. If you follow somebody you always get their news. It’s also possible to write time-specific comments. Click on a point in the song and write a comment. The comments shows up when somebody listens to this song point.
http://www.hiphop-battles.com
HHB is a battle plattform exclusively for hip hop and rap artists. You can battle another artist in the areas of beatboxing, writing and mc battles. The one who gets the most votes wins the battle and also some points. There are different point levels so beginners don’t have to battle the experts. For beat producers it’s possible to upload their beats so they can be used in the rap battles.
This site is mostly dominated by Germans but there are also english-speaking artists and an englisch forum.

I’d be glad if you added me in the social network sites where you are even if you’re not a musician!
